globalhealthVolunteering Abroad/International Health and Medicine: Conversation with Dr. Cliff O’Callahan (MD/Ph.D) Recently returned from a year in Rwanda, Dr. O’Callahan is a pediatrician and faculty member with Middlesex Hospital’s Family Practice Residency Program and former Chair, American Academy of Pediatrics, Section on International Child Health. He will talk about the kinds of questions you should ask yourself before choosing when, where, how and with which organization to volunteer or work abroad. (Tuesday, November 12; 6:30p-7:30p in 41 Wyllys 115)

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain an inside perspective on how to make better decisions about career opportunities, learn how to ask better questions of prospective employers, and understand the essentials for leadership in the workplace. The talent/leadership discussion will then be followed by an information session about The Conference Board and its Summer Fellows Program. The Conference Board is a global, independent business membership and research association working in the public interest. publichealthPublic Health Graduate Schools: Directors of Admissions from Yale, Columbia, Harvard, and Johns Hopkins schools of public health will offer a presentation about their  various programs, including their joint-degree programs that connect the MPH to other
graduate schools at their institution. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about this broad and diverse field  as well as admissions requirements and  expectations. (Monday, November 18th; 12:15p-1:15p in Usdan 110)

I am the Civic Engagement Fellow for 2013-2014. While a student at Wesleyan I double majored in Psychology and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and completed a joint thesis during my senior year. I am interested in issues of social justice, mental health, media, and global welfare.
