Omprakash Mission: Omprakash creates transformative educational experiences by connecting grassroots social impact organizations around the world with an audience of volunteers, donors, and classrooms that can learn from and support their work.

We are about learning through dialogue and human relationships. We seek to nurture an educational community that facilitates honest communication and continuous critical exchange between diverse social actors around the world.

We are about providing affordable opportunities for individuals to build meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with grassroots social impact organizations around the world. Our database links over 100 pre-vetted ‘Partner’ organizations from over 30 countries with potential volunteers and funders, all free of charge. We also offer grants to qualified applicants to defray the costs of travel and living expenses.

We are about educating volunteers, interns, and citizens. Our Education through Global Engagement (EdGE) program matches a rigorous online curriculum with an immersive international internship experience, leaving participants better prepared to understand and engage with local communities during their time abroad.

We believe that personal relationships generate powerful learning and positive social change, so our biggest priority is facilitating beneficial connections between our Partner organizations and our broad network of volunteers, donors, and students around the world. We don’t place a pricetag on membership in our network because we are committed to making international learning experiences affordable and accessible. We offer online curricula and resources because we know this work isn’t easy or straightforward, and we want all members of our global community to be prepared and critically engaged. Our dedicated staff members have worked with grassroots organizations around the world, and provide personalized support to help volunteers and Partners make the most out of what our network can offer.

We provide extensive online training and personalized mentorship to individuals who are volunteering within the Omprakash network of autonomous international grassroots social projects. The program encourages participants to think critically about international aid and volunteering, and works to push back against problematic trends in ‘voluntourism.’

We offer you:

Immersive internships. Participants work within our network of over 140 vetted autonomous organizations in over 40 countries. EdGE participants find positions within our network based on their skills and interests, and communicate directly with our Partners to plan their work.  It is also possible for participants to work with organizations outside of the Omprakash network.

An extensive curriculum. Participants join peers in an online pre-departure classroom to explore the moral, ethical, historical, environmental and economic complexities of international aid and volunteering.

Personal mentorship. Participants receive dedicated personal guidance from experienced Omprakash mentors before, during, and after their work abroad.

A structure to maximize impact. EdGE culminates with the completion of a collaborative, creative, research-based Capstone Project, which is designed to be of lasting value to the host organization and shared throughout the Omprakash network.

Academic credit. If you are a student, Omprakash will work with your school administrators so that you can receive academic credit for your work.

Affordability. Omprakash does not charge overhead fees for internships, and offers need-based financial aid to reduce the EdGE program fee.
