Roslyn S. Jaffe Awards ($100k for work benefiting women and children, apply by 6/30)

Wes alum Jeffrey H. Liss ‘86 wrote in with this great opportunity:

At Ascena, our philanthropic vision is simple:  empowering women and children to be their best.  Across our communities, there are tremendous stories about individuals working tirelessly toward this goal.

We’re hoping you know some of those heroes who would be able to take a grant of $100,000 and accelerate the work they are doing in the area of women’s and children’s empowerment.

The Roslyn S. Jaffe Awards celebrate everyday heroes with a can-do attitude who are working to empower women and children in the areas of health, education, social reform and self-esteem.

These grants have been developed in honor of Roslyn Jaffe who co-founded dressbarn in 1961.  What started as a small store in Stamford, Connecticut, today has become the Ascena Retail Group, a $5 billion organization with five brands:  dressbarn, maurices, Justice, Lane Bryant and Catherines.

Mrs. Jaffe’s motto is:  “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”  For this award, we are looking for lemonade makers; individuals who are making the world a better place for women and children.

We’re asking you to support this project by sending this message to your students, alumni and your university communities.

All interested candidates or nominators can find additional information at:  www.jaffeaward.com.  A brief on-line application is also available on this site.

Thank you,
