Volunteer for the CT Foster Care System

From Luke Lezhanskyy:

My name is Luke Lezhanskyy and I’m a sophomore here at Wes. I’m writing to you on behalf of “Not For Sale,” a student organization dedicated to providing educational resources to orphans in the Connecticut foster care system. We are embarking on an exciting journey during the upcoming fall semester, and were hoping that you, as the leading representative of your group, could spread the word about this project to your teammates.

Essentially, our project will be volunteer-based, and will connect a student from Wesleyan with a single child from one of the therapeutic foster care houses in Meriden, CT, for the duration of a semester. Each student will work as a tutor-mentor by aiding the child with academic work and offering encouragement through conversation. Additionally, this role will be a weekly commitment, with an estimated 2 hours worth of work per week.

Any student who is interested in working alongside us to help these children should get in contact with us before the end of April so that we can begin the necessary state background check process. Our work is slated to begin on the second week of September, after students have verified their schedules.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at fcsp.wesleyan@gmail.com. On behalf of our entire group, I thank you, in advance, for your consideration and help in realizing this goal.

All the very best to you,

Luke Lezhanskyy ‘20
