Volunteer with Wesleyan Habitat for Humanity

From Abigail Matlack and Jay Straus:

The Wesleyan Habitat for Humanity group volunteers at the local ReStore in Cromwell every Saturday from 10:00am to 12:30pm. The ReStore is Habitat’s biggest fundraiser to raise money for the houses they build for families in need. It is the equivalent of Goodwill but for furniture as people donate their slightly used household furniture which is then sold for a discounted price. As volunteers, we help take in donations, fix broken things, and help organize the store by moving furniture and going wherever help is needed. No prior experience is necessary and transportation is provided. The other component of this group are the builds that we participate in. About once or twice a semester we go to one of Habitat’s construction sites in the area and work on the house. During the last build, all of the volunteers learned how to wire electrical sockets and had the house fully lit by the time we left. The relationship Wesleyan has formed with Habitat in the past two years has been amazing and we would like to keep supporting their important work in the Middletown area. However, this is only possible with the participation of volunteers. Please consider joining us for even just one Saturday to see if this is something you may be interested in.
