Building an NGO Ground-Up // Lunch with Gabrielle Fondiller ’07 Wednesday

Sponsored by the Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship:

“Gabrielle Fondiller is a ’07 Wes alum with a double major in History and Government. She is now Director of a community NGO in Kenya called Hatua Likoni. After studying abroad in Kenya with SIT, Gabrielle began sponsoring school fees for 7 students. This has since evolved into an NGO which now sponsors and mentors 140 students including 18 in college and university. In Kenya high school is not free. Hatua’s scholarship program provides high school and university scholarships to top students from public primary schools whose families lack the means to pay for education. Hatua’s mentoring program focuses on life skills, civics and career guidance to help prepare students for life after school.

During her visit to Wesleyan Gabrielle will talk about living in Kenya, building an NGO from the ground up, the advantages to a community based development approach, and the challenges. She will also share details about an internship available with her organization beginning in Oct.”
