Fellowship Opportunity: Hatua Likoni Grant Writing Fellowship

Hatua Likoni is a community NGO working to reduce unemployment and poverty in Likoni, Mombasa. Through scholarships, mentoring and career guidance, Hatua helps Likoni’s top students gain the skills, credentials and networks they need to contribute to and benefit from Kenya’s growing economy. Hatua began by sponsoring 7 students in 2007, we now sponsor and mentor 143 students in high school and college. We also manage a community resource center and library, support a community football league and promote civic education in Likoni. Learn more about us at www.hatualikoni.org.

Hatua Likoni is currently accepting applications for the position of Grants Fellow, responsible for identifying potential funding opportunities and writing grant proposals. This is a full-time, volunteer position open from Oct 1st 2013 through Sept 30th 2014. Applicants are welcome to suggest their own start and end dates within this timeframe. We request that applicants be available to work in Kenya for a minimum of 3 months. The ideal candidate will have experience developing and writing successful proposals for funding. This is an exceptional opportunity for those seeking grassroots international development experience.

I am the Civic Engagement Fellow for 2013-2014. While a student at Wesleyan I double majored in Psychology and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and completed a joint thesis during my senior year. I am interested in issues of social justice, mental health, media, and global welfare.
