WEServe Week of Service (1/19-1/25; register a project now)

Once known as a soup kitchen, The Bowery Mission is sometimes referred to as the busiest "restaurant" in New York City, serving more than 900 meals per day to poor and homeless men, women and children and more recently, the unemployed who are doing everything possible to make ends meet. Volunteers helped to prepare dinner, serve and clean-up as part of the WEServe Week of Service. This project was organized by Donna Temple '95.

Dear students, parents, alumni, colleagues, and friends,

We are excited to support the second annual WEServe Week of Service, and we hope you will join us.

WEServe seeks members of the Wesleyan community around the world to organize service projects during MLK Week (January 19-25, 2014) and submit them here. Wesleyan will publicize the list of projects and seek other Wes people to pitch in.

Last year, there were 39 projects in 17 cities internationally. We hope to double those numbers this year, but we can only do it with your help. Last year’s projects included gardening, feeding, reading, sewing, painting, and much more. Check out the map and photos to get a sense of the scope.

To learn more and register your project, visit http://wesconnect.wesleyan.edu/weserve, and please help us spread the word by sharing this link with your Wesleyan networks via social media and email.

Thank you in advance for your support,

Makaela Kingsley ’98, Director of Wesleyan’s Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship (PCSE)
Cathy Lechowicz, Director of Wesleyan’s Center for Community Partnerships
Jelisa Adair ’13, Civic Engagement Coordinator, Wesleyan University
Miranda Linsky ’14, WesCFPA (Connecticut Forest & Park Association) Coordinator

The Boston food pantry provides a three day emergency supply of food once a month to low-income clients—about 105,000 annually—making it one of the largest emergency food pantries in New England. Volunteers prepared food bags and distributed them to clients. This project was organized by Linden McEntire '04 as part of the 2013 WEServe Week of Service.
