Use this last week of winter break to finish some applications! Here is a sampling of some of the opportunities with upcoming deadlines from the Wesleyan Career Center:

Policy Fellow, Connecticut Voices for Children: Connecticut Voices for Children is seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic person to fill a full-time two-year policy fellowship. This is a policy position at CT Voices that is specifically designed for people who have been out of college for no more than two years and who are interested in doing state-level policy work before entering graduate or professional schools.The Fellow will work with senior staff trained in law, public health, education, and social work on a range of research and policy analysis initiatives including early care and education, state fiscal policy, child poverty and family economic security, at-risk youth (juvenile justice and foster care), K-12 education and health policy. The Fellow will specialize in one or two of these areas based on the needs of the organization, with exposure to projects in all areas. In addition, the Fellow will work on state legislative initiatives by preparing testimony for legislative hearings and providing general support for CT Voices’ legislative agenda. Deadline: Tuesday, January 21st

 

Green Corps Organizer, Green Corps: Green Corps is looking for college graduates who are ready to take on the biggest environmental challenges of our day. In Green Corps’ year-long paid program, you’ll get intensive training in the skills you’ll need to make a difference in the world. You’ll get hands-on experience, and we’ll help you find a career with one of the nation’s leading environmental and social change groups. You’ll get amazing experience working on environmental issues across the country: Green Corps sends organizers to jumpstart campaigns for groups such as Rainforest Action Network, Sierra Club, Greenpeace and Environment America in San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and dozens of other places in between. Deadline: Tuesday, January 21st

 

Program Assistant, Friends Committee on National Legislation: The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) has openings each year for about six paid internships, which are generally filled by recent college grads. They are a non-partisan 501(c)(4) lobbying organization (they field the largest number of registered peace lobbyists on Capitol Hill), with a 501(c)(3) education fund. They were founded in 1943 by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), and even though the organization is still administered by Quakers, many of their interns are from other denominations, or have no religious affiliation. Interns work one-on-one with our professional lobbyists on such issues as the federal budget, foreign policy, immigration, Native Americans, nuclear disarmament, energy and environment to name a few. They are active currently in work on preventing war with Syria, promoting diplomacy with Iran, the peaceful prevention of deadly conflict in Africa and the Middle East, and lobbying for an end to drone warfare among a host of other concerns. The political landscape changes daily. They also work with many coalitions across a variety of issues, and are often the lead organizer. They host regular briefings on Capitol Hill, so the interns get experience in direct lobbying, researching, and organizing at the grassroots level–all useful skills!  A Deadline: Friday, January 31
