Hi! My name is Robi Frederick (she/her/hers) and I am the new Jewett Center for Community Partnerships Communications Intern. I am currently a senior here at Wesleyan majoring in American Studies with a minor in Civic Engagement. This semester, you can find me at the Center for Humanities Fellowship office working on my Senior Essay which focuses on American mythopoeic criticisms of expansionism and “the West” in relation to Trump’s militarized wall and containment. In the evenings, I am usually playing with the Wesleyan volleyball team on the grass courts behind Usdan!
Throughout my time at Wesleyan, I have always admired the Albritton Center and The Jewett Center for Community Partnerships for their emphasis on activism, local community engagement, collective responsibility, and political participation. So often on a campus like Wes, students tend to create an imaginary bubble where it is hard to break through and become an active citizen outside our community. I am honored to be the JCCP’s Communication Intern because I believe more than ever it is imperative that civic engagement activities are shared throughout campus, especially during Election Year (I also am so excited to help spread the E2020 initiative!) Under the mentorship of Rhea Drozdenko, I am responsible for helping support activities on Wesleyan’s campus and the Middletown community. I help coordinate communications for the Albritton Center which include the Wesleyan Engage blog, newsletters, and social media posts. I also assist in designing reports about what social activism and events are happening on campus! This past month, I have learned so much from Rhea and I am excited to expand my knowledge in the communication field. I am looking forward to continuing growing with this internship and being involved with the greater Wesleyan community.
