At Allbritton, we are so proud of the election season programming this semester! For every Tuesday since National Voter Registration Day (September 17th), until Election Day (Tuesday, November 5th), students have volunteered or been paid through work-study to register students to vote in Usdan and Exley. So far, this collective has trained close to 50 students on registering to vote both in town or in their home states. We wanted to spotlight a couple of those students who worked throughout the semester to ensure their peers were registered and had all the resources they needed to vote.
“For the last few weeks, we’ve been doing voter registration tables in Usdan during lunch, encouraging people to register, and answering questions about the voting process. It’s been interesting to see how voting is organized differently across the country as we help connect people with their specific state voter requirements and how many barriers come up for people, making them disinclined or unsure about voting. Because of this, it is essential to have support resources readily available, and we both feel it has been significant to be part of this effort right now.”

“Peer-to-peer engagement is one of the best ways to improve civic education and engagement. It’s been exciting to see how many students have risen to the occasion of registering others on campus to vote and creating an informed electorate on campus.”
– Diana Martinez, Associate Director of the Jewett Center for Community Partnerships
We at Allbritton are so grateful for the immense student involvement in this semester’s Voter Registration events, and hope to continue advocating for your desires for community engagement on campus.
