On Thursday, April 27, Wesleyan’s Jewett Center for Community Partnerships hosted the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce’s 12th annual High School Career Expo. Along with sponsors like Eversource and Pratt & Whitney, Wesleyan and the Chamber welcomed nearly 1200 high school sophomores from 6 different area high schools to the Freeman Athletic Center where they visited tables representing over 100 different career options. The students and their guidance counselors prepared for the Expo by reviewing the 12 career clusters represented and prioritizing booths to visit based on their interests. All students were also encouraged to visit a career cluster they had not considered before. Members of our business community came prepared to discuss what preparation and experience students need to enter their field and to answer questions. A number of business partners also helped conduct mock interviews and gave students feedback on their skills. This event is a great opportunity to get young people thinking about and exploring career options and a great community partnership.
