From ARTFARM Executive Director, Dic Wheeler ’81:
Fall 2017 Volunteer Opportunities and Internships at ARTFARM:
Teaching Assistants needed for Circophony Fall Circus Training Program for Teenagers:
A great opportunity for someone with some circus, spinning, dance or acrobatic experience to help spread the circus joy to local teenagers in Circophony’s Fall Training Program. Program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 – 9 pm, starting September 12. Teaching Assistant can commit to one or both evenings. This is a chance to keep up your own strength, flexibility & skill training while helping the professional staff lead this established teen circus program.
Development Internship:
Work with ARTFARM’s Executive Director on grant writing, fund raising and donor management. 3 – 6 hours per week, to be scheduled individually. Learn how a small non-profit arts organization survives and thrives by being a part of the machinery that keeps it all going.
Environmental Education Research and Script Development Internship:
ARTFARM is currently developing Living With Change, the third in series of environmental education-based performance pieces. The two preceding shows, Circus for a Fragile Planet and Submerged!, each toured for three years. Living With Change, aimed at a high school and college audience, explores the effects of Climate Change on ourselves and our planet, encouraging audiences to develop a “50 years from now” viewpoint on their lives. The Intern will work closely with the writer and director in researching the science in which the art is grounded.
ARTFARM is a Middletown-based non-profit organization, founded in 2001, which cultivates high-quality theater with a commitment to simple living, environmental sustainability and social justice. Co-founded by Dic Wheeler (Wesleyan ’81) and Marcella Trowbridge, ARTFARM strives to create theater, circus and performance art which makes a difference. 2017 projects have included Shakespeare’s Hamlet; Isaac Newton’s Little Apple Circus; Where Are We Now?: Race, Pride, Class and Inequity; Circus Indivisible; and socially-engaged theater work in Sri Lanka. www.art-farm.org
