WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION: HOW THE 21ST CENTURY WILL BE MADE, NOT MANAGED
For aspiring entrepreneurs eager to embrace the future of the internet for fun, profit, and the good of humankind. The world isn’t flat, but the world wide web is. May this be your blueprint.

As Alexis Ohanian learned when he helped to co-found the immensely popular reddit.com, the internet is the most powerful and democratic tool for disseminating information in human history. And when that power is harnessed to create new communities, technologies, businesses or charities, the results can be absolutely stunning.

In this book, Alexis will share his ideas, tips and even his own doodles about harnessing the power of the web for good, and along the way, he will share his philosophy with young entrepreneurs all over the globe.

At 29, Ohanian has come to personify the dorm-room tech entrepreneur, changing the world without asking permission. Within a couple of years of graduating from the University of Virginia, Ohanian did just that, selling reddit for millions of dollars. He’s gone on to start many other companies, like hipmunk and breadpig, all while representing Y Combinator and investing in over sixty other tech startups. WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION is his personal guidebook as to how other aspiring entrepreneurs can follow in his footsteps.

Peter Frank ’12, CEO of Texts.com, has been interested in entrepreneurship since middle school. He has built several businesses and sold hundreds of domain names. In January 2011, he sold the nation’s largest anonymous college confession board, a site that got him lambasted in Time Magazine.

After graduating from Wesleyan, he served for six months as a “jack of all trades” Associate at Hatch Labs, a mobile app incubator.

He has interned at Demand Media and Capital Group, where he was a member of the TAP Program.

Peter lives in NYC above a bar with two of his senior year roommates.  He is an English Major and Tinder user #9.

Alexis Ohanian is a startup founder and investor in Brooklyn, NY.

After graduating from UVA in 2005, Alexis and his co-founder Steve Huffman started reddit, a top 50 US website.

Now a reddit board member, Alexis focuses on social enterprise Breadpig, publishing authors like xkcd and SMBC — with profits donated to worthy causes.

Alexis helped launch hipmunk and ran marketing/pr/community before becoming an advisor and joining the fight against SOPA & PIPA.

He invests and advises over seventy tech startups. He’s Y Combinator’s Ambassador to the East, co-founder of the non-profit IHAS, and wrote a national bestselling book, Without Their Permission.

He’s also got a show on The Verge called Small Empires about NY tech startups — the founders who create and the people who use these digital platforms.

Along the way, Alexis spoke at TED, volunteered in Armenia as a Kiva Fellow, and was named on Forbes 30 Under 30 list two years in a row (and then turned 30).

He proudly doodled the logos for all three of his startups and loves his cat, Karma.
