The First Friday Talk Series continues this Friday with Professor Sheila Mullen’s ASL students as noted speakers. There will be refreshments, so don’t miss out.

“The Center for Community Partnerships cordially invites you to attend the fourth First Friday presentation of the year on Friday, April 5 at 4:30 PM in Room 305 of the Allbritton Center. This is the ninth year in which Sheila Mullen’s fourth-semester ASL students have been working with elementary-school children in Middletown. They draw on research by Marilyn Daniels, Oliver Sacks, and Howard Gardner to incorporate sign language into the reading curriculum. In addition helping the children remedy delays in English literacy and grow in their ability to express themselves, the students in this exemplary service-learning course form close mentoring relationships with the children.

The students will talk about ASL as a distinct language and describe their work and experiences at McDonough School. Refreshments will be served. Please join us!”
