Grant Opportunity // Mini Grants from NECSF

MINI-GRANTS

Grants are available to students to:

  • Foster students’ interest and participation in campus sustainability efforts
  • Prepare students, as important stakeholders of an institution’s sustainability, with an understanding of how to raise awareness for campus sustainability through implementing a campus-wide project
  • Encourage students at under-resourced institutions, minority-serving institutions, and signatory institutions of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) in New England to advance campus sustainability efforts.

 

Description of Grant:
Grants provide funding (up to $1000 for each project) to selected student-run groups to implement a sustainability project at their institution
Possible activities include:

  • A project that will improve sustainability on campus
  • Guest speakers series on sustainability/climate issues
  • Visit or host workshop with other campuses to replicate and implement successful campus sustainability practices/models
  • Other (propose your own project!)

Grantees will have one year to implement the project at their institutions starting in September 2013
Grantees (maximum two representatives) will be invited to present their projects at the 2014 NECSF conference
Selected grantees will receive free registration for the 2013 and 2014 NECSF and travel reimbursement on a case-by-case basis

Eligibility:
The eligible project must:

  • Be proposed by a student-run group at a college and/or university located in New England
  • Promote or raise awareness on campus sustainability efforts
  • Application must be signed by a supervisor, and project must be approved and supervised by a faculty or staff at the institution (faculty member, director of facilities, campus sustainability coordinator, etc.) during implementation phase
  • Applications from under-resourced institutions, minority-serving institutions, and signatory institutions from the ACUPCC are strongly encouraged to apply

Project Deliverables:

  • A final report on the project’s activities and results after project completion
  • A presentation of the project at the 2014 NECSF conference

Application must be submitted via contact@necsf.com by May 15, 2013
The application form must include:

  • Name of institution
  • Name of student group & lead contact person
  • Signature of project supervisor
  • A 500-750 word description of the proposed project and implementation process
  • A budget proposal (breakdown of how much the project would cost)
  • Materials and supplies
  • Speaker fees/costs
  • Food
  • Travel
  • Other
