This week, a Green Street Teaching and Learning Center student Gianna Sutcliffe, was highlighted in the Middletown Press for her toy drive to supply gifts to children at Yale- New Haven Hospital. After having been the recipient of gifts from the Toy Closet, Gianna wanted to give back. Below is an excerpt from the article, in full here.
When 7-year-old Gianna Sutcliffe was younger, her doctor sent her to get several immunology tests, which at times were painful. During that time, she was given a gift from the Toy Closet Program at Yale-New Haven Hospital to help her pass the time. Her older brother also had to go through similar circumstances.
When mom Tracy Sutcliffe had to have surgery last September, leading to an extended stay at the New Haven hospital, her room was very close to the children’s unit.
After those two experiences, Gianna Sutcliffe has dedicated herself to helping those in need.
“Ever since I had the surgery, Gianna has been all about giving back,” Tracy Sutcliffe said. “We saw some things in the child’s unit and it was tough to watch. She would see the children and always wanted to help in some way.”
If you want to support Gianna, she will be outside the Cromwell Walmart on November 28th from 10am-2pm. You can also bring toys to Middletown City Hall or to the Green Street Teaching and Learning Center by 11/29.
