On March 9th, two Yale research scientists, Kristen Murfin and Kellie Jurado, came to the Green Street Teaching and Learning Center to teach a workshop for the AfterSchool program. Middletown schools had a half day, so the kids spent all afternoon working with the scientists. First, they watched a presentation about what epidemiologists do and learned about microbes.
Then, they did an experiment to learn just how quickly disease can spread— and how they could prevent the transmission of common colds and flu. It was definitely a fun and learning-filled afternoon!
