Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship to award two SOCAP13 tickets (applications due July 31)

SOCAP13A new form of capitalism is arising that recognizes our ability to direct the power and efficiency of market systems toward social impact. Social Capital Markets is dedicated to supporting the growth of this market. SOCAP is an annual event series that connects leading global innovators – investors, foundations, institutions and social entrepreneurs – to build this market at the intersection of money and meaning.

SOCAP13 will be held from September 3rd through 6th at the historic Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, and is anticipated to welcome more than 1800 participants under the banner of Accelerating the Good Economy. Nearly 100 discounted tickets were made available to top-notch students, self-starter entrepreneurs, non-profit representatives, and mid-career changers who agreed to volunteer 12 hours during the 3.5 day conference.

SOCAP co-founder Tim Freundlich ’90 has secured two of these volunteer tickets for Wesleyan GOLD alumni (Graduates of the Last Decade). The Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship (PCSE) will accept applications for these two comped volunteer slots until 12 noon (Eastern Time) on July 31, and winners will be announced on August 5. A member of the PCSE Advisory Board has offered free housing for winners traveling from out of town. Winners will be responsible for their own travel costs, and they will be asked to report back on their experience in the form of PCSE blog posts and student advising. We’re sorry, but current students, non-GOLD alumni, and current SOCAP13 ticket-holders are not eligible to apply.

Learn more and watch a video about SOCAP, complete the application form by July 31, and contact PCSE Director Makaela Kingsley ’98 with questions.

What are Wesleyan alumni saying about SOCAP?

“SOCAP is a gathering of many of the best minds in social innovation. The place is abuzz with world changing ideas and opportunities.”—Jonah Sachs ’97, co-founder and CEO, Free Range Studios

“I’ve been to SOCAP several times and I highly recommend it to young alumni who are looking to either get their feet wet in this nascent, burgeoning industry or who want to launch an idea. There are few events like SOCAP that convene such a high quality group that is willing to engage in the thoughtful discussions required to create the new social capital economy.” —Meredith Lobel ’01, Principal, High Start Group

“I’ve been attending SOCAP for years, there’s no better place to get the pulse of the social enterprise and impact investing worlds. The sessions are amazing, but it won’t take you long to skip them for in-depth conversations with people doing amazing work.” —David Jay ’04, Founder and CEO, Journal Lab
