Lindsey Musen ’04 writes in with a special invitation for Wesleyan students interested in community-driven, sustainable development:

Limitless Horizons Ixil creates opportunities for the hard-working youth and families in Chajul, Guatemala to help themselves to a better future—opportunities like public school, a public library, after school programs, and employment opportunities.

From July 31 to August 9, 2015, Limitless Horizons Ixil is hosting a Community Engagement Trip in Guatemala and we’d love for you to join us! It’s an amazing opportunity to learn about the Maya Ixil culture and the obstacles faced by rural communities, as well as make a huge impact in the lives of Chajul residents and practice speaking Spanish (though no Spanish is required). On our community engagement trip, you will learn about the Maya Ixil history and daily life. This is a unique opportunity to observe classrooms, engage in dialogue with teachers and students, hear from families about their experiences, and contribute by engaging in meaningful service work alongside community members. In a beautiful and remote mountain setting, you will live a range of intimate and unparalleled experiences. You will have unique access to the homes and lives of Ixil families due to the close relationship we’ve developed with them in our ten years of working here.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who’s interested in international communitydevelopment, education, and non-traditional travel experiences. All the details of our program can be found at http://limitlesshorizonsixil.org/ce-trip. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask me or contact our Outreach Director, Nadine Ann Skinner, at Nadine@limitlesshorizonsixil.org.
