Lend for America Summit, the premier conference for student-led microfinance on 10/11-13 at UPenn

LFA summitCharity Yoro, Program Associate at Lend For America, wrote to tell us about this conference. If you are interested in microfinance, you should consider (1) attending, (2) talking to the founders of The Germinal Fund [Ted Shabecoff ’16, Jason Brandner ’16, and Adam Saul ’16], and (3) applying for a Lend for America scholarship and/or a PCSE Enrichment Grant. You might also want to read about these other fall 2013 social entrepreneurship conferences that we advertised previously.

What: An annual conference that connects student leaders from across the country with national experts for a weekend of training and peer learning on microfinance and leadership development

When: October 11-13, 2013

Where: University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia

Why: At the conference, attendees learn about leading a campus-based microfinance institution (MFI). By leading a campus MFI, students gain a diverse perspective about local life and culture outside university gates and a chance to develop real-world experience that will set apart a resume during job and internship searches.

Our conference this year is sure to take advantage of the exciting trends in microlending, social entrepreneurship, and small enterprise development in the US. We aim to equip students to help underserved communities start businesses, develop assets, increase their financial capacity and improve their economic well-being.

How: Through hands-on sessions that use real-life examples led by both students and professionals, attendees walk away with clear and ambitious plans to strengthen economic development initiatives in their communities.

Early bird registration is just $29 until Sept 15th. Students may register for the summit using this link: http://bit.ly/LFA13register. We also have a limited number of scholarships available to students. Applications are available at http://bit.ly/LFA13grants.
