From fields, courts, and pools to athletic gear and team travel, the sports industry, like every industry, needs to consider the impact it has on society and the environment. The Next Play invites students to rethink the relationship between sports and sustainability by entering a national business plan competition, where they may win a portion of $30,000 in prizes. Ventures in the for-profit track will propose ways to make sports more environmentally and economically sustainable, while projects in the non-profit track will use the power of sport to address the world’s social issues. Business plans are due by March 2nd, and the top submissions will be invited to compete at the Next Play Venture Pitch Tournament at Davidson College in North Carolina on April 17th and 18th.
