This week is a busy one for the Cardinal Internship program! Here are a few of the Cardinal Internships we thought might be of most interest to our students, and remember, if the opportunity you like is unpaid, you can always apply for a Wesleyan Summer Experience Grant to offset the cost!
National Endowment for Democracy (NED): NED is a congressionally funded, private, nonprofit grant-making organization that works to support freedom around the world. They are currently seeking interns for the Africa Department, the Office of Government Relations & Public Affairs, the Center for International Media Assistance, and the Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program. *MINDS Foundation Fellowship Program: The MINDS Foundation Fellowship Program is an opportunity to dive into a global health and cultural experience for students and professionals. All volunteers that participate in the Program are MINDS Fellows. They will participate daily with local psychiatrists, local neurologists, local nurses, and local social workers to help diminish the stigma towards mental illness, assist with patient care, and educate patients and families in better treatment methods and resource availability. Bipartisan Policy Center: The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) drives principled solutions through rigorous analysis, reasoned negotiation, and respectful dialogue. As the only Washington, DC-based think tank that actively promotes bipartisanship, the BPC works to address the key challenges facing the nation. Our policy solutions are the product of informed deliberations by former elected and appointed officials, business and labor leaders, and academics and advocates who represent both ends of the political spectrum. We are currently focused on health and nutrition, energy, foreign affairs and homeland security, housing, the economy, and democracy. The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) offers full-time summer, and part-time fall and spring internships each academic semester. Qualified candidates will be highly motivated and energetic self-starters. Interns will assist individual projects and departments in several capacities and should be enthusiastic about working on a variety of tasks. (Deadline: Saturday, March 1)
SoS Hartford Intern: SoS Hartford is an urban farming and youth leadership development nonprofit organization. We lead training programs to teach young people about food justice issues and build community and school gardens. Interns will dedicate 10 hours/week to the program. For 8 hours/week they will work in teams on school and community gardens, maintaining raised beds, organizing community events, and teaching gardening classes. For 2 hours/week the whole group will come together for a series of leadership development and environmental justice trainings. (Deadline: Saturday, March 1)
*Communications Intern, Refuge Point: Founded in 2005, RefugePoint’s mission is to provide lasting solutions for the world’s most vulnerable refugees. We address the critical and unmet needs of those who fall through the cracks of humanitarian assistance and have no other options for survival, with a focus on women, children, and urban refugees. As a communications intern, you will support RefugePoint’s communication activities, including but not limited to researching material for publications, monitoring and evaluating media reports, managing social media platforms and designing creative content for campaigns. Assistant to the Director, Sustainable South Bronx: The Assistant to the Executive Director will provide support to Michael Brotchner, SSBx’s Executive Director (and Wesleyan class of 1995). The Assistant’s responsibilities will be very diverse and will include work related to every component of the organization’s work: program development, fundraising, administration, and finance. This is a terrific opportunity for someone interested in a future career in the nonprofit sector, as it will provide a great viewpoint from which to observe – and participate in – the activities of a nonprofit organization on a day-to-day basis.
